Weekends are….

Weekends come round so fast or is it just I’m getting older and time seems to be passing more quickly? I really appreciate my weekends although I often overfill them and don’t always get the R & R I need. My fault, no one else’s.

Its late Friday afternoon and I’ve finally got a bit of time on my hands, time that no one else has claimed from me, time that’s peaceful and unhurried. Its a rare oasis in my frequently over busy world.

This weekend I will have more time for me, catching up with friends, catching up with chores, singing, doing nothing if I choose not to. we even get an extra hour in bed! We were not made to go on 24/7. I know some people have no choice because they have to work nights, I’ve done more than my fair share as a nurse. But we all need to rest.

It was part of the grand scheme from the beginning. God rested on the seventh day. Our bodies need time to recharge, to heal from the hustle and bustle of life and all we put them through.

When did you last really look at a sunset, watch a bird in a tree, notice what is going on around you? It is so easy to lose touch with friends, lose our sense of wonder at nature, lose our sense of who we are.

My challenge to myself this weekend is to really enjoy the time I have, to be thankful for each moment and not wish any of them away, to give thanks to the One who gave us not only time but eternity. I hope you enjoy your weekend. God Bless

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11 28-30: The Message

About alicesapplesofgold

I'm a mother and grandmother, though not so old, and live in one of the most beautiful places in the country, Cornwall. fortunate enough to live by the sea I never want to be too far away from its sight and sound. I love music, words, painting, life, my family, my friends and most of all my faith. I live on the same roller coaster as everyone else but love to encourage others, support them when they're struggling and most of all want to have made a difference to the world by the time I leave it. I believe faith is an intimate part of everyday life and seek to relate the ordinary to the divine. It is the encouragement of others that has brought me to this point.
